Many of us today have this most sought thing on our bucket list i.e. to travel the different corners of the world, explore, live, enjoy, and be carefree. Given our gruesome and monotonous lives, it often gets difficult to sneak out, but yet we aspire, we dream and we hope to visit some incredible places in our lifetime.

So for all the patriotic ones out there, the ones who wish to explore our own country, let me list down 5 of the most underrated tourist destinations in India, but yet truly awesome:

1. Khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh

Known as the Mini Switzerland of India, Khajjiar is a small district located in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, which bears a great resemblance with the scenic beauty of Switzerland. It has some dense pine forests, green meadows, and gives a panoramic view of the mountains. So if you love forests and are up for some trekking and sightseeing, this is the place you ought to visit!


2. Chitrakote Falls, Chhattisgarh

Addressed as the ‘Niagara Falls’ of India, Chitrakote Falls is situated in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, where you can witness the majestic fall of river Indravati from the height of 100 feet, capturing the position of one of the largest waterfalls of India. It is truly one of the most mesmerizing experiences one can encounter.

3. Auli, Uttarakhand

Auli, referred to as ‘Devbhumi’, or the ‘Land of the Gods’ is one of the lesser known but yet amazing skiing destinations across the country, in proximity with the ‘Char Dham’. It also is home to Asia’s longest 4 km cable car called as the Gondola. Surrounded by the mountain terrain, amidst high peaks and snowfall, giving a view of the lovely Himalayan ranges is one of the most wonderful experiences you’ll have in your travel journey.


4. Gurudongmar, Sikkim

Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world located at an altitude of 17,800 ft above the sea level, in the state of Sikkim. What adds to the uniqueness further is, that a small part of the lake remains in its liquid state, no matter how freezing it gets. It is believed to be endowed upon with some sacred power and devotees often carry the water in containers and consider it holy. The view of the Kanchenjunga is one to look out it, which makes it one of the must-go-to places in India.


5. Tarkarli, Maharashtra

For the ones who seek adventure and thrill, this is the place you need to essentially visit. Tarkarli is a small village located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, which is host to one of the cleanest and most pristine beaches, offers great water sports activities, its key attraction being scuba diving and snorkeling as the clean waters and coral reefs will leave you completely spellbound!
