Google has dedicated a doodle today marking the 200th
birth anniversary of noted mathematician ‘George Boole’, the man behind the
Boolean algebra and the basics of logic rates which are used in digital computing.
George Boole was as English Mathematician, an educator, innovator and a true
genius.

“Boole is a pivotal figure who can be described as the
‘father of the information age’. His invention of Boolean algebra and symbolic
logic pioneered a new mathematics. His legacy surrounds us everywhere, in the
computers, information storage and retrieval, electronic circuits and controls
that support life, learning and communications in the 21st century.” as
mentioned in ‘Georgeboole.com’ a website dedicated to ‘George Boole’ by the
University Cork College.

It becomes very important for everyone to know about this
great innovator who is also called as the ‘Father of the Information Age’ who
was majorly self taught and had little of formal education. Boole was born on 2nd
November 1815 and took up the job of a junior teacher at the age of 16 to
support his family. He kept on learning through borrowed books, started his own
school at the age of 19 and later on went to publish various research papers on
symbolic algebra, differential equations , probability theory etc. Binary
digits,boolean operators and data type is very well known to programmers all
over the world as they form the basics of digital computing. Boole died in 1864
at the age of 49 due to pneumonia but left a solid foundation for the digital
ages to come and also an unmatched legacy.
Google’s doodle can be seen on its homepage across various
countries throughout the world including India and it really rocks.
