Facts that you didn't know about the LED Revolution

LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lights are semiconductor devices that produce light when an electric current flows through it. These LED lights have been around for years but were not considered as a traditional source of light; they were used in traffic signals, computer screens, lighting digital clocks. In 2006, the first company that started manufacturing LED bulbs commercially was the Netherland-based ‘Lemnis Lighting’. In many of the developed countries, people have already switched over to the use of LED bulbs as the use of LED bulbs has the greatest potential for saving the energy. It is believed that by 2027, 348 terawatt hours of electricity could be saved through the use of LED bulbs which will lead to a total saving of more than $30 billion.

In India, based on the technology of Lemnis, NTL Electronics manufactured the first LED bulb in 2009. In 2014, NTL acquired Lemnis and became one of the largest manufacturers of LED bulbs in the world. Nowadays in India, there are also various other companies that are manufacturing LED bulbs indigenously. The Central government has supported this move to a great extent and is trying to spread awareness among the public in order to make use of the LED bulbs instead of an incandescent bulb. It is seen that the street lights have been replaced by LED bulbs which are not only beneficial but also make the city look more beautiful with an increased amount of illumination. Their main aim is to replace the sale of 77 crore incandescent bulbs through the use of LED bulbs.

LED bulbs are considered to be one of most efficient sources of artificial light, a 15-watt CFL or a 60-watt incandescent bulb can be replaced through the use of an 8-watt LED bulb. Amazing benefits regarding why LED should be used instead of incandescent bulbs have been mentioned below:

  • They contain no mercury and cause less harm and consume 90% less power than other lighting sources.
  • The lasting time of LED bulbs is more compared to other bulbs; due to this reason, their replacement cost is also less.
  • They do not require much maintenance and are easy to use.
  • Less servicing is required and they pose fewer hazards to the environment.
  • A total of 16 billion carbons can be prevented from being emitted into the atmosphere, thus keeping the environment safe and healthy.
  • The cost of LED bulbs is quite cheap as compared to other lighting sources, which require more expenses to be incurred.
  • They are extremely energy efficient and provide light instantly.
  • They require low voltage power supply for illumination.

Thus, the LED’s are considered to be one of the most efficient ways of illumination and is a great source of saving energy. Considering the use of LED lights to be eco-friendly, an intelligent green LED lighting revolution has been brought up to save our planet. With the technological advancement from analog to digital, the LED lights are considered to be one of the best sources of digital light. Because of its outstanding operational life and durable quality LED’s have captured the market quite fast and it is believed that very soon these LED lights would replace all other sources of illumination due to their amazing benefits.
