After a much awaited season break, the Premier League returns within a fortnight with Leicester City FC as holding champions.
A crazed Euro Championship and Copa America in the season break ensured that the football craze didn’t take a break after the last season ended a few months back. The Premier League now returns with a vengeance. With many sackings and new managerial appointments, the Premier League might just be the best and the most competitive league to look forward to. While in the last season, Leicester City FC showed us that with determination and teamwork and not necessarily top class transfers, you can certainly pip the Big 4 to win the league.
The Big 4 i.e., Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea FC floundered and underdogs Tottenham Hotspurs FC and Leicester City made most of the opportunity and held their head high and ensured that they get their chance to play in the prestigious UEFA Champions League for the 2016-17 season.
With high-class appointments in the Managerial department for teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea in the form of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, and Antonio Conte respectively, this season has just become the most competitive it has been since its inception. Now there are Top 7 in comparison to previous seasons’ Top 4. All the 7 teams, Leicester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea will be vying for the Premier League Championship with plenty transfer work done and Pre-Season matches being played right now.
Coming to transfers, the English clubs have shown that they mean business by signing many high profile players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Manchester United, Granit Xhaka for Arsenal FC, Gundogan and Nolito for Manchester City FC, Vincent Janssen for Tottenham Hotspurs FC, Batshuayi for Chelsea FC. Even the lower league clubs haven’t hesitated to splash the cash.
The newly promoted teams to the Premier League are Hull City FC, Middlesbrough FC, and Burnley.
The Premier League might just be the best league in the world right now in terms of competitiveness and the revenue generated every season. While the PL clubs haven’t managed to go much far in the Champions League in the past few seasons, the quality of football might just improve. The PL houses possibly the two best managers in the whole of the footballing world in the name of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. Both of these managers are touted to bring a different dimension and style of play to their teams and the Manchester Derby would certainly something to look forward to with both of them rekindling their past when Mourinho coached Real Madrid and Guardiola coached FC Barcelona back in 2011.
This season might just be the most competitive it has ever been. The next season begins on 13th August and I think I speak for all footballing fans when I say that I cannot wait for this day to come any sooner.
