The Indian Army last night conducted surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) to safeguard our nation, confirmed Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).
It was a major step taken by the Indian Army. It was India's first major strike on Pakistan after PoK-based terrorists attacked an Indian Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri area earlier this month, killing 18 Indian soldiers.
2. The announcement followed a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had vowed to avenge Uri in an earlier tweet.
3. The operation lasted from 12.30 am to 4.30 am, with the location being 500 metres to 3 km from the LoC on the Pakistani side, sources in the Indian Army said.
4. Eight terror launch pads were destroyed by the commandos of the Army Special Forces.
5. No Indian soldier was hurt during the surgical strikes, the Army informed. It also informed that they had no immediate plans of another such operation for now.
6. The entire operation was monitored by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, NSA Ajit Doval, Army Chief General DS Suhag and various other top officials from the Army headquarters in Delhi.
7. The Pakistani Army is denying the news of any surgical strike by India but has admitted that two of its soldiers were killed by Indian forces in cross-border firing in Kashmir earlier today.
8. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the surgical strikes. Sharif warned that Pakistan's "intent for peaceful neighborhood should not be mistaken as Pakistan’s weakness."
9. The government has called up an all-party meeting at 4 pm today following the surgical strikes. Most opposition parties have welcomed India's strike on Pakistan.
10. PM Modi also briefed President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, former PM Manmohan Singh about the Army operation. The Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir have also been briefed about the incident.
