Let us all 'Wear from India'

Everyone today is brand conscious and is particular about certain branded products. Because one of the factors that attract is the quality and vivid designs available which are extremely brilliant especially for clothes. But do we realize that this contributes to their country’s development rather than ours? Loyalty towards international brands does not allow us to connect much with our very own Indian designers and manufacturers.

Earlier, the Indian designers and manufacturers did not witness the vast exposure what exist today as there was less importance given to such profession where proper guidance was something which lacked. But today, with various institutions providing lectures conducted by the people of the industry itself, importance is given to it as a career option, workshops and many other factors have led to the immense development in this field in India. And availability to all this has led to excellent products in the Indian market. But due to the habitual purchasing of international branded products, the clothing designed by the Indians takes back seats.

If we as the consumers develop the interest in our textile and clothing markets, it will lead to the progress of the markets. Today, the designer clothes are not only restricted to the Indian designs and style but also a variety of the western and Indo-western clothes like a shirt made up of a khaki cloth or a boho jacket with embroidery in it. The potential of the Indian market is highly rich due to our heritage culture. But their efforts and talent are shadowed by the established international brands.

Various efforts are made for the established and the upcoming Indian designers. Few of them are:

1. The ‘I Wear Handloom’ campaign

One of it is the recent campaign ‘I wear Handloom’ campaign by Smriti Irani.  This campaign was mainly to motivate the citizen of the Indian wear clothes from the handloom industry of the country and this initiative was a hit all over the Twitter and Instagram. It was followed up by people like Milind Soman, Vijendra Singh, FDCI, and many others who gave their contribution to this wonderful campaign.

2. ‘Make in India’

The Make In India campaign initiated by the PM Narendra Modi is all about encouraging multi-national, as well as national companies to manufacture their products in India. There are 25 sectors to be focused upon and out of them, one is leather, and the other textile and garments. This will eventually flood the progress in these industries in the upcoming years.

3. Fashion weeks

Lately, there are many fashion weeks held in the country every year like Lakmé  Fashion Week, Amazon Fashion Week, Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW), and many others. These fashion weeks help the designers motivated and work more effectively to showcase their designs more than once in a year. Also, it helps them to play with various themes like bridal, spring, etc. on which they can design the outfits.

The Indian designers need more motivation and reorganization which can be gained by the citizen of the country. So, let’s encourage our soil’s talents and wear from India.
