The water we consume in our home depends upon personal choice and the kind of resources one has at their disposal. Not exactly. Even though urban households have access to treated water, the quality of water is still questionable. This is primarily because of the dirty state of rivers and lakes which is infested with industrial and public waste. Therefore, it’s quite likely that the tap water may contain unwanted arsenic substances like sulfates, mercury, lead, etc. that can be harmful to health if not further treated.

What exactly is bottled water?

Easily available and the primary source of drinking water when travelling, bottled water are nothing but water collected from pristine, natural sources and thereafter processed.The water is then packaged and sold commercially. 

Is it safe for consumption?

Many families in India purchase packaged mineral or bottled water from local vendors for drinking and cooking purposes. However, you cannot guarantee the purity of water. Time and again disturbing news surface wherein some local vendors are known to sell filtered water under the garb of mineral water. Therefore, unless packaged water is purchased from a reputed vendor and a well-known brand, the purity of bottled water cannot be guaranteed.

What is the source of RO water?

RO stands for Reverse Osmosis. For domestic purposes, the RO technology is used in several water filters designed for household use. Conventional filters use carbon (activated charcoal) to remove unwanted deposits from the water. The water dispensed from this mechanism is referred as filtered water. 

Is filtered water safe for consumption?

Although the filtration process does not eliminate natural minerals and vitamins in the water, the carbon molecules might attract toxic chemicals. Therefore, filtered water may not be safe all the time.
