Naam Shabana - More Than Just a Film

Over the last few years, shouts of women empowerment, feminism, and gender equality have taken a steep rise owing to the increase in tragic incidents involving females. As we all know that cinema is the so-called mirror of the society; whatever takes place in the society or whatever is happening in the society is sure to be made a film on. A couple of weeks back, a certain Bollywood film named "Naam Shabana" got released on the same lines. The only difference being the fact that it was made with an intention of bringing about a necessary change in the society.

Framed as a spin-off of the original film "Baby", Naam Shabana stars Taapsee Pannu, Manoj Bajpayee and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, whereas Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, and Danny Denzongpa are in cameos. The film shows the story of how Taapsee's character, Shabana develops into a spy and becomes a member of the core group "Baby". But what is more exciting about the film is that the film shows how, in spite of a tough childhood and other difficulties, she manages to overcome all that and trains hard to become what she is now.

As is mentioned in the title, this is more than just a film; this film needs to be watched by every individual, especially the females and learn how to become self-dependent when it comes to overcoming difficult situations like harassment, eve-teasing, etc. The film encourages and inspires the females to take up training in martial arts, judo, and other such self-defense techniques which would help them from any tragic incidents.

Today's environment is such where girls cannot rely on the males to change their cheap mentality and thought-process and start respecting the females. These so-called males will continue to behave the way they do now so it is better that the girls themselves should learn the self-defense techniques in order to overcome any such situations.

Just like Taapsee's character in the film, the girls need to become strong, both mentally and physically, and get ready to face such situations that can come in their way anytime anywhere. With this initiative, Akshay Kumar has himself set up Women's Self Defense Center (WSDC) in Mumbai & Thane - the center imparts self-defense training to women of any age free of cost. He is also planning to start such classes and academies in various parts of India so that our girls and women become self-dependent and strong.
