Why Are Good Films Not Appreciated in India?

Films are something truly dynamical. They often change your perspective towards life and certain events happening around you. They do transform you sometimes and that can be both in the positive and the negative aspects. Our beloved country is highly influenced by the films and cinema we watch. We see any film and we gradually tend to do what the lead in the film does and mutually share his ideology in the real life.

There is no residual doubt in the amount of inclination we all feel towards becoming an actor at some point in time of our life. However, the majority of people in our country need to work on their approach towards selection of movies and the parameters by which they judge films. There are prospective directors and story tellers who do win all those national awards but are not appreciated by their home audience.

Why does this happen?

1. We don’t appreciate good acting

It has been high time that we pay the same respect that every actor deserves. Don’t let one flop picture define one’s career. A film always sells under the brand name of one particular actor and if the actor isn’t so much celebrated the producers don’t indulge in spending money on a film and ultimately this never evolves an actor as he/she doesn’t get celebrated on the screen. Let us all resolve to go and watch a good film not because of a good, pleasing face but for the acting part.

2. We rely too much on film critics

Every person has his/her own perspective and one person cannot judge a movie because it is made up a lot of ideas and a thought process which is multilateral. Let us all also judge a movie by our own parameters and not let some of the people decide your film watching experience.

Good films give you immense learning in a format which is not at all boring and is really a good way of passing your time where you can always go and cherish a good one with your family. It gives you an immense level of bonding and satisfaction and the best part is when you can relate your life or some visuals from the film and then you get motivated enough to change or eliminate certain issues that earlier mattered to you.

It has been rightly mentioned by John Cassavetes who quotes:

Films today show only a dream world and have lost touch with the way people really are. In this country, people die at 21. They die emotionally at 21, maybe younger. My responsibility as an artist is to help people get past 21. The films are a roadmap through emotional and intellectual terrain that provides a solution on how to save pain.

Thus watching good and interesting films is the need of the hour and not watching films just for passing time is the old ideology. The new one is to watch films with dynamism and those which change you for the better.
