6 Indian Stand-Up comedians who will make you ROFL

Gone are the days when the likes of Kapil Sharma and Bharti Singh used to entertain people with their physical comedy and loud jokes, for our generation demands a comedy which is sensible, amusing and connects with our daily lives.

Strict censorship on TV combined with monetization of YouTube has made Internet an apt platform for rising Indian comedians who will tickle your funny bone.

1. Vir Das

Known for his movies and music, Vir Das is also a terrific stand-up comedian.

His production company is called Weird Ass Comedy which is a clever and funny play on words because Weird Ass sounds a lot like Vir Das.

Most of his stand-up acts take a dig on current affairs and political state of the country.

Check out his 'pot-cast' on YouTube that features him ridiculously disintegrating news headlines.

2. Kenny Sebastian

Born and raised in a middle-class family, Kenny's childhood is similar to a majority of young people in India which makes his content more relatable and his jokes even funnier.

Kenny's videos are sure to make you laugh with his witty take and comical approach with respect to the daily life of an Indian young adult.

3. Sahil Shah

This young stand-up comedian will cater you with most creative homemade puns and maximum double entendre in his acts.

His childishness may deceive but his jokes will literally cheer you up and improve your mood.

He is popularly known as the founding member of East India Comedy.

Be sure to check out his stand-ups on YouTube and give your mood a boost.

4. Kanan Gill

Kanan Gill's most fame comes from his hilarious 'Pretentious Movie Reviews'.

He won the Punchline Bangalore Competition which kick-started his career.

He has quite a female following as he is both blessed with good looks and a good sense of humour. Along with stand-up comedy, he also creates and acts in short funny videos which can be found on YouTube.

5. Biswa Kalyan Rath

Known for working alongside Kanan Gill in 'Pretentious Movie Reviews' (which by the way y'all should totally check out), he now also performs as a stand-up comedian.

Born and raised in Orissa, he clearly understands the struggle to think multilingually.

His acts mostly mock the conventional behaviour and ways of life which will certainly crack you up.

6. Aditi Mittal

The only female to be featured on this list, Aditi Mittal will make you LOL with her goofy expressions and her inherited Punjabi loudness.

She even acts out characters in her acts. Check out her YouTube Channel to watch her latest video about the Things They Wouldn't Let Me Say and have a good time laughing.

How Youtubers are some of the best Role Models?

Humans crave familiarity over anything. We love to ‘relate’ to people and find ourselves attached to humans who are very much like us. That is probably one of the main reasons why teenagers and young adults nowadays find YouTube stars more appealing.

Youtubers are more ordinary, reliable, engaging, relatable and in a sense, extraordinary than mainstream stars with a lack of filter and a candid sense of humor.

The aura around them and the vibe they give off are familiar. They are the kinds of people who we look at and say, “Oh, thank god I’m not the only one” or “S/He is just like me!”

Youtubers have not only empowered the confidence of their viewers, they have also supported social causes and raised awareness of many aiding organizations. A cause is often addressed in their videos that raise awareness of the viewers to help a good cause which affects the people who need help as well.

Tyler Oakley has helped raise over $500,000 for The Trevor Project, which prevents suicides among the LGBT+ community. Jack and Finn Harries (jacksgap) have helped a lot of charitable trusts. Their recent ‘Rickshaw Run’ which involved the brothers and their friends racing across India in rickshaws to support a teenage Cancer Trust.

Connor Franta’s Thirst project collects charity to build wells in third world countries where there is a scarcity of water. Pewdiepie, possibly one of the biggest YouTubers out there, has raised money for Save the children, an organization that helps children whenever a disaster occurs in a poor country.

Youtubers are also known for being very real and they help their viewers understand how online creators don't all have perfect lives.

For example, Zoella posts video blogs about her daily life, in which she documents her happy moments and also her sad ones. Zoe danced with the devil, aka with anxiety and instead of keeping mum about it, she decided to open up to her viewers so that she could share her battle and also help her viewers who were struggling with the feel better.

Lilly Singh, i.e ||Superwoman|| has talked about taking charge of your future and not letting your background affect whatever you do have also hugely inspired teenagers. Louise, (SprinkleofGlitter) is a fashion vlogger and a wonderful role model who often talks about self-harm, depression.

Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla (Smosh) have created a video titled ‘Parents suck’ that just depicts how important parents are. In Tyler Oakley's video "I Had a Vision of Love", he talks through his life goals he wishes to accomplish, can inspire all the kids who feel directionless. Youtuber Joey Graceffa talks about how he overcame problems such as having a learning disability, an absent father, and an alcoholic mother.

There are so many Youtubers that I haven’t mentioned but one thing is common- all Youtubers have shown that they're average kids who gain attention for their personality. After seeing them do it, it's hard to not get that feeling blossoming deep within your heart and that adrenaline pumping into your system that you could also do it- and that motivational boost is needed.

Youtubers have made the World a smaller place, in a good way. They spread truth, incite change and broaden the horizons of one’s thinking. YouTube has had the reputation of triggering the wrongs in a person, but more often than ever, it is the exact opposite. Youtubers have made people feel how they should embrace all types of creativity. It doesn’t matter if you’re not perfect because it’s your imperfections that make you unique.

How has YouTube helped budding artists encash their talents?

“If you’re young and talented, it’s like you having wings”

In 2007, a talent manager discovered a Canadian boy through YouTube and made him a star. Today, we know him as Justin Drew Bieber and, currently, he is touring the world and performing in different countries. This Canadian boy released his fourth album last year and his net worth was recorded to be $220 Million in 2015.

All the fame and money followed him but it was only possible because of the chance he got to showcase the world what he had to offer. A chance, which is not so easy to get.

We often come across these talent programmes but they’re all run by TRP hungry people and they demand more than just talent to give you the recognition. There’s a reason why the contestants are supposed to tell their sob story to the world and make them believe that they need the title a lot more than the other contestants. These television shows earn money but what about the participants?

Founded in 2005 by Paypal employees, YouTube was bought by Google on November 13, 2006. Ever since it came into existence, people have used it as space where they can show the glimpse of their talent to the world and, if they’re lucky and talented enough, earn while living their dream. This chance was not available before and that too on a global platform.

With every passing day, this website is becoming an essential part of our lives which directly benefits the YouTubers.

The key feature of YouTube is its flexibility. Be it a cook, dancer or stand-up comedian, everyone is welcomed here as it does not specialise in one particular thing. Under one name, many versatile performers are available at your disposal. Along with that, you don’t have to share your story to pool in more subscribers to like your videos. It is completely based on the uniqueness and authenticity of your talent.

In addition to that, one does not need to travel to the workplace because it can be wherever they want it to be. They can stay home, get the work done and upload it as per their convenience, without any time limit or pressure from the boss.

Getting first-hand criticism from the viewers is simply cherry to the top. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that people are shifting their focus to YouTube in order to achieve recognition and fame.

How one earns money on YouTube has nothing to do with the views or likes one get. It’s a big misconception that a viewer’s like or comment will help the person earn an extra dollar. They earn from the advertisements that are shown before their video. Skipping it means less money.

The famous Indo-Canadian YouTuber, Lilly Singh aka ||superwoman||, spent a whole video in explaining the working on YouTube and how much they earn. Singh’s potential earnings are somewhat close to $3,076,633.

All in all, if you thought that Youtube is simply a means of entertainment without any potential earnings, think again! It goes beyond that. It’s the step towards your dreams.
