Why to visit Bandhavgarh National Park?

Bandhavgarh is a small national park, compact in nature but still teeming with wildlife. It is located in Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh spread across the Vindhya hills, covering a total area of about 105 sq.km. The name “Bandhavgarh” has been derived from an ancient fort which was present in that area. Bandhavgarh National Park is famous and is the natural hub for Royal Bengal Tigers. It possesses the highest tiger population density in India. It has a large biodiversity and is densely populated with other species also which includes sambhar, nilgai, wild boar and barking deer are quite common. White tigers were first discovered in Rewa, not much far from Bandhavgarh.

The terrain is of great rocky hills rising sharply from the swampy and densely forested valley bottoms.The finest among all these hills is Bandhavgarh with great cliffs and eroded rocks. The Bandhavgarh fort is located at its highest point which is about 2000  years old. There are numerous caves in this national park; these caves consists of various shrines and  also have Sanskrit inscriptions on them.

The nearest airport to Bandhavgarh is at Jabalpur (190km). The nearest railway stations are Jabalpur (190km), Katni(102km) and Satna (120km). The best season to visit Bandhavgarh is from mid-October to June. Due to rainfall, the national park remains closed from 1st July to 15th October. There are various safari timing and safari zones.


It is an amazing experience to get a glimpse of these majestic creatures. Being a natural abode of wild species, it takes you to the lush greenery of the jungle. There are various safaris available like elephant safaris and jeep safaris which enable you to get a closer look of these magnificent creatures. Tala, Magdhi, Panpatta and Khitauli are the major zones in the national park. Among them, Tala is the richest in biodiversity and mainly has tigers. These four major zones form a core of the Bandhavgarh National Park. Charger and Sita are considered to be the first famous tigers of Bandhavgarh. Almost all the other tigers are the descendants of these two. Sita, a female tiger is the second most photographed tiger in the world.


Bandhavgarh is famous for thousands of bird species also. In the lap of nature, one can have an amazing bird watching experience. It is a very nice place where people can visit for a short period of time and explore the beauty of nature along with various wildlife species. It is a place for adventure lovers and is blessed with a wide variety of flora and fauna. In order to explore the beauty and amazing creation of nature, Bandhavgarh is the best place to visit which is virtually a paradise for wildlife.
