In the recent days almost all the air conditioners employ the use of halogenated chlorofluorocarbons as a refrigerant. But it is found that these halogenated chlorofluorocarbons are also not safe to use; hence it will gradually be replaced by ozone-safe hydro fluorocarbons or even ammonia.
Energy efficient air conditioners have become very cost effective. The 1.5 ton device is now available in the range of Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000. Not only the initial installation charges are low but also their use is very cost effective as they save huge amount of energy. They are said to be great power consumption equipment. These AC’s use electrical systems that are more efficient and help in faster cooling process. The US Energy Department’s Emerging Technologies Program is trying to develop an air conditioner that will be using non-vapor compression techniques which will help in reducing approximately 50 percent of the power consumption.
In 2010 it was the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BSS) in India who brought in the use of energy efficient air conditioners and other appliances. They also introduced the concept of star rating system in every electrical appliance. The world’s greenest refrigerants are used by companies like Godrej who are using the concept of Green Balance Technology.
It is the sole responsibility of the people of the world to conserve energy and develop alternative sources of energy that will help reduce the depletion of non renewable sources of energy. Since these are non renewable resources of energy it is very important for us to think about the future generations; we must take appropriate steps so as to reduce the consumption so that these energy sources last longer.
