8 Most expensive Paintings in history

Here is the list of most expensive and the highest known prices ever paid for a painting from around the world.


1. Nude, green leaves and bust

A painting by Pablo Picasso took just 8 minutes to set the record price at auction. It was sold in 2010 at the winning bid price of $106.5 million.



2. Silver car crash

The most expensive work by the most famous legend of pop art, Andy Warhol’s was the star of the contemporary art evening sale at Sotheby’s. It was sold at a winning price of $105.4 million.



3. Gustav Klimt

It is the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I sold by Mario Altmann, who after a long court battle was deemed rightful owner of this Klimt and several others. The art was sold at the price of $135 million. The painting depicts a beautiful lady with her beautiful vision.



4. Le Reve (The Dream)

From the hand of the most famous painter Pablo Picasso. This was the most sensual painting by him, depicting his 22-year-old mistress Marie-Therese Walter. It is said to have been painted in one afternoon on January 24, 1932, was sold for $155 million.


   
5. Interchange


It is a painting by abstract expressionist painter Willem De Kooning. In September 2015 it was sold by the David Geffen for $300 million, the highest price for a painting till date.



6. When will you marry me

It is an oil painting from 1892 by the French post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. It was on loan to the Kunst museum in Basel, Switzerland for over a half century. It was sold privately by the family of Rudolf Staechelin for US $300 million in February 2015.



7. The card players


It is series of oil paintings by the French artist Paul Cezanne. The two rich men of early 1890s well-dressed sitting and playing card. It was sold to the Royal family of Qatar for a price of $250 million in 2011, making it the second most expensive painting.



8. Dance at Le Moulin de La Galette


It was painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. It is housed at Musee d'Orsay in Paris. The painting depicts a typical Sunday afternoon in Moulin de La Galette in the district of Montmartre in Paris. It was sold for $127.4 million. It was typically impressionist snapshot of real life.
