How is Technology helping in Women Safety

“Technology” and “Women Safety”, these have become two of the very important terms recently. Technology is advancing faster and has become an important part of our lifestyle as well as has become a “necessity”. Likewise, women safety has become a top priority for everybody to look upon. Various measures are being taken to improve women safety.

Technology can’t stop violence against women neither it can guarantee women safety, but it can change the way how we raise awareness about it and help us to prevent it. I am a student and at times I’m worried when I have to travel alone during the night. Even my parents get worried when I don’t reach on time. While walking on the streets and finding no cabs no rickshaws to drop you, well, it’s a cause of getting worried and scared too. But now it seems there are ways to ease my fears. Of course, the credit goes to the latest technology, which is solving our problems way too faster. Now if we have a cell phone in our hands, then half of our worries and tensions are reduced. Yes! Technology has given birth to various alternatives that help to reduce any kind of violence and let us feel safe and secure.

Various personal safety applications such as SOS”, “VithU” etc.have been introduced, especially after the 2012 Delhi gang rape case. These apps have received increased prominence. They aim to keep users safe with technology-enabled features like GPS, SMS, alerts, alarms, and more. In the case of any emergency, they can alert others that you need help, even if you are unable to convey them anyhow. I agree that these methods are not stopping women violence but at least they are reducing it as well decreasing the chance for a crime to happen.

Not only this, technology is helping women to protest more loudly, to draw attention to the horrific violence happening all around. Unfortunately, there’ll never be a day where I don’t look over my shoulder every time I walk out the door. No woman will, I guess. But the technology will let me sleep a little easier knowing that there are people out there in the world who want to change that.
