Why Should You Start Dreaming?

Yes, you read that right. And no, I am not in the need of immediate psychological attention. I’ve dedicated the article to dreams because I feel that the problem with the people today is that some of us dream too much, while some of us dream too less. And believe me, start believing what your grandmother told you. It is perfectly okay to dream, in fact, it is very necessary to dream.  Before you go ahead to read exactly why you should start dreaming right now, let me tell you one thing. There is no age limit to dreams and just because someone says it isn’t “appropriate” to dream at the age of 70 (or whatever your age is), you shouldn’t restrain yourself from dreaming.

# It’s Fun

Yes, that’s it. As simple as it sounds, dreaming is fun and I think that’s reason enough to start dreaming. But for those who’re regarding the premise of my argument very suspiciously, let me quote Nora Roberts to say, “It’s disparaged because it’s happy.  And if it was important, it would be tragic. Which is bullshit. There is nothing wrong with being happy.” Though she said these words in the context of romance novels, they hold true in this context as well. So, you’ve spent all your life performing your duties and doing what was considered appropriate and adequate. But once in a while, you need to stop for a moment, indulge into your personal bubble and do something as stupid (as the society perceives it) as dreaming. Take a moment to reminisce about the past and dream about the future. I swear, there’s magic in the air, you just need to close your eyes to feel it.

# It Helps You Achieve More

For all those who are raising their eyebrow at this point, let me tell you that it is extremely practical to dream.  Think about a young lady, who quit her studies to pursue her modeling career, borrowed a huge amount of money to enter the finals of Miss India 1998, only to stop at being one of the five finalists. And then appearing for the Jet Airways hostess interview, in a desperate attempt to pay her debts, only to fact rejection.  And resorting to cleaning the tables and scrubbing floors at McDonalds. Five years down the lane, she becomes the talk of every house. Do you know who I am talking about? Well, its Smriti Irani. And not only then, a few more years down the lane, she became only the most influential politicians. Why, you ask? Because she dared to dream. When her astrologer told her that she wouldn’t amount to much in her life, she confidently  said “Check on me ten years later!” When she did not win the Miss India contest, she said, “In the years to come, you will talk about me, not the winner.” As Walt Disney says,  “If you can dream it, you can do it.” If you have not imagined where your destination is, how will you know which journey to take?

# Creativity

For all those creative people out there, let me tell you that there’s nothing like a dose of dreams to get your creative juices flowing. There are numerous examples of writers who got inspiration for their very famous writings in their dreams. Be it a nightmare with numerous gory murderous scenes or be it a wonderful dream about a fairyland, things you might never imagine will always come to you in your dreams. And believe me, these could make excellent plots too!

# Stories

As Oprah Winfrey says, “The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.” And if you don’t dream big, take the road that nobody dared to take, what stories will you have to tell your children?

So, make sure you get your daily dose of dreams. Don’t be afraid to dream, because believe me, there is no age limit to dreams. SO dare to dream, and dare to dream big.
