#1. Sania Mirza (Tennis)
Born: November 15, 1986 | Right-handed (two-handed backhand)One of the highest paid and most successful athlete. She is currently ranked no.1 in women's doubles ranking. From 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, she was ranked by the Women's Tennis Association as India's No. 1 player, both in singles and doubles. She is the third Indian woman in the Open Era to feature and win a round at a Grand Slam tournament (going as far as the last 16). She has also won a total of 14 medals (including 6 Gold) at three major multi-sport events, namely the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Afro-Asian Games.
She achieved too many milestones in her life but latest about Sania is that she was appointed as the UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia during the event held to mark the International Day To End Violence Against Women on 25 November 2014. She was named in Time magazine's 2016 list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
#2. P. V. Sindhu (Badminton)
Born: July 5, 1995 | Right-handedAt the 2016 Summer Olympics, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal. She is one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal – other being Saina Nehwal. Sindhu came to international attention when she broke into the top 20 of the BWF World Ranking in September 2012 at the age of 17. In 2013, she became the first ever Indian women's singles player to win a medal at the Badminton World Championships. Her hard work and dedication became fruitful when this year she created history in Rio Olympics.
She charted the history of achieving the feat as she is youngest and first women individual to bag an Olympic Silver medal representing India. This was the second instance of a podium finish at the Olympics by any Indian badminton player.
#3. Mithali Raj (Cricket)
Born: December 3, 1982 | All-rounder (Batting style: Right-hand bat, Bowling style: Right-arm leg break)She is former captain of the Indian Women's cricket team. She is the second highest run-scorer in women's international cricket and only second women cricketer to surpass 5000 run mark. Raj has played both Test and One Day International cricket for India's women's cricket team. She made her One Day International debut in 1999 against Ireland at Milton Keynes and scored 114 runs without getting out in that match. In 2015 she received Padma Shri award for her achievements. Her life story inspires everyone to move out of their comfort zone and create history.
#4. Arunima Sinha
Born: 1988She is the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest and also the first Indian amputee to climb Mount Everest. She was honoured with Padma Shri in 2015. She was a national level volleyball player who was pushed from a running train by thieves. As a result, one of her legs had to be amputated below the knee.
Her aim was to climb all the continents' highest peaks and put the national flag of India. She has already done five peaks:
- Everest in Asia
- Kilimanjaro in Africa
- Elbrus in Europe
- Kosciuszko, Australia
- Aconcagua in Argentina as the world's five highest peaks
- Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya), Indonesia.
