Breaking news, Aamir Khan brings "Toofan"

All of us are aware of the circumstances Maharashtra faced last year due to drought. There were many helping hands and Aamir Khan was one of them. He adopted two drought-hit regions of the state. While Aamir Khan has already been successful in breaking the records with ‘Dangal’ of hearts on the big screens, now he has gone ahead and got involved in his new project.

No, this is not a plot of any of his upcoming films. It is a social cause, which he initiated in early last year. Khan along with his wife Kiran Rao has started an NGO called Paani Foundation with the aspiration of creating a drought-free Maharashtra.

And now he has come up with the second edition of Satyamev Jayate Water Cup 2017. Through which the NGO organizes a competition among the drought affected areas to see which villages can attain the utmost water conservation work in given period of time. To increase the awareness and promote the cause the foundation released a video called ‘Toofan Aala’ in the beginning of this very year.

This video, which promotes the Water Cup challenge - which is going to be held from 8th April to 22nd May - creates awareness and popularizes watershed management in the state. The top three villages across Maharashtra will get a cash prize of Rs 50 lakhs, Rs 30 lakhs and Rs 20 lakhs respectively. In addition, the top village from each taluka will get a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs.

"In 2016, 116 villages across three talukas of Maharashtra competed to make their village water-sufficient. The total water storage created by the competing villages was 1,368 crore liters of water which is equal to 13,68,000 tankers of water. This is equal to Rs 272 crores worth of water which the country has saved annually.– Paani Foundation

Khan has brought many well-known faces together for the campaign and the video. While the video has been shot by Sairat fame Marathi filmmaker Nagaraj Manjule, Kiran Rao has made her debut as a singer. Popular composers Ajay- Atul has composed the song ‘Toofan Aala’ which is beautifully written by Guru Thakur. To reach out to more Marathi audiences, it features popular faces like Sonali Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Akash Thosar, Sunil Barve and many more.

This time, in the 2nd edition the foundation has announced the challenge open for 30 talukas across 18 districts after working for 3 talukas last year. Every village from the talukas is permitted to participate in the contest, which applies by 31st January 2017.

While all the other contests and competitions are specific in deciding the winner and the loser, here is the challenge in which none is going to lose and in fact, everyone is going to get the most precious gift which is the water they are going to save!
