Have you ever heard such a creative name for a family WhatsApp group? Well… this is the name of Piyush Pandey’s family WhatsApp group and also the title of the book written by him. Those of who don’t know him, he is a big shot of advertising world. Television commercials like Cadbury’s ‘Kuch khaas hai’, M-seal ad ‘Will’. ‘Mile sur mera tumhara’ and so on to name few, are all creation of Piyush Pandey. Born and brought up in Jaipur, this man has changed the way Indian advertising use to be.
A few days back, I finished reading this book and was so overwhelmed. The book discusses the nuances of the advertisement world, how he made his place in the industry, his family, his inspiration and not to forget his love for cricket. I never thought that a game can teach a person so much! A lot of his work is inspired by the experiences he had while he used to play cricket. And the important lesson which not only he learnt while his journey of cricket, but also enlightened my mind is, ‘Never take your win for granted. Consider it as a milestone and not the final destination. The day you start thinking that the win is the ultimate thing you ever wanted and hence stop working towards it, you will lose something big that you would have won’.
We have heard since years ‘Behind every successful man, there is a woman’, which is true, but I feel behind every successful man, there is a family. While reading the book, he quotes his personal life instances which became the inspiration behind the commercials he wrote. His family has doctors, another re-known name in the advertising world, Prasoon Pandey, singer and so on! And all of them have always inspired and supported him while his journey.
This book taught me the true value of relationships in the business. It is not easy to gain somebody’s trust especially when a lot of money and an established brand image is at stake. Big names like Pidilite and Ambani's to name a few, trusted him with their campaigns and weren’t proven wrong. His commitment towards his work, his clients, his family and his company is worth learning from.
A lot of people ask him why is he not thinking about opening his own ad agency. He will get a number of investors and all the support from the industry, but he is still not thinking about it. The answer to this he gives is, he has been allowed to feel like the owner of a company. He has reached a stage where he has Ogilvy in his blood and that will never go away.
We feel committed to very few relationships in our lives. Mainly it includes family and friends, but lucky those companies which have people like Piyush Pandey, who are so committed to them. I feel it is a must read for everyone, even those who are not into advertising. It has a lot to teach between its pages. Buy From Amazon

Ashna grew up in a jazzy town (where she felt she can never fit in), did graduation in economics (where she didn’t fit either) and she writes (where she finally started to feel like she fits in)
