Will the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan be successful?

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiated by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and launched by the Indian government on the 2nd October, 2014 at the Rajghat, New Delhi is a cleanliness campaign which basically aims to make India clean by the 2nd October, 2019 which is the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The problem of cleanliness poses a great problem to the citizens of India. It is the sole responsibility of each and every person to keep his country clean and make this campaign a successful one. The PM of India wants the country to be clean in every aspect. Each and everyone must be involved in this cleanliness drive, specially the youth because they are the future leaders of the nation. It is they who will lead the nation and make it grow. The Swachh Bharat Mission can only succeed if every citizen participates in this campaign and ensures that there is cleanliness all around.

As far as the growth of our country is concerned it is very necessary to eliminate all the social issues from our society, then only our country can grow. To fulfill the vision of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, this cleanliness drive was initiated. The aim of this mission is to make the rural as well as the urban areas clean and hygienic. It is very much important to convert this campaign into a national one and make everyone aware of this cleanliness drive through social media as well so that everyone can contribute towards it.

This campaign has various kinds of objectives which need to be fulfilled in order to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a success. The Ministry of Urban development has been given the responsibility to implement this drive in urban areas and the Ministry of Drinking water and Sanitation has been assigned to implement it in rural areas. Few objectives are enlisted below.

  • Separate toilets must be constructed for every household. Till date many households in the rural areas do not have a separate toilet. Due to this reason the problem of open defecation still persists which is absolutely not a contributing factor towards this mission.
  • The solid waste management mechanism should be carried out very effectively otherwise it may pose a big sanitary problem. Modern facilities must be employed to ensure effective waste management system.
  • General awareness and education should be spread among the public regarding health and sanitation.
  • Public dustbins should be provided at every location so that wastes are not thrown out here and there. Also the maintenance of the public bin is a great concern. Most of the time it is seen that the dustbins are overflowing and the wastes are being thrown outside.
  • Heavy fines should be imposed on the people who litter the place otherwise if the fines are quite low it will hardly affect the public.
  • The private sector should entirely take over the sanitation sector in order to achieve greater success in terms of sanitation.
It is believed that cleanliness is godliness. It is the responsibility of the citizens to remain in a healthy condition; automatically the country will also be clean and healthy because it is the people who make the country. A clean India mission can be the best tribute India can pay to the father of our nation. If this message of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan spreads fast and people work towards it then by 2019 India will really be a clean and hygienic country.
