Talking about Augmented Reality, the first thing which comes to our mind is Virtual Reality. We consider Augmented Reality as same as Virtual Reality. But the fact is that they both are related to each other but are not same. Virtual Reality immerses the senses completely in a world that exists digitally whereas augmented reality takes the real world of the present and projects digital imagery and sound into it.
The augmented reality uses a range of sensors, computer components, and a display device to create the illusion of virtual objects in the real world. The credit goes to the popularity of smartphones, which have all the necessary components which are required to make augmented reality a success. Using a smartphone or tablet as a window into the augmented world is one way we can relay this digital information to our eyes, but this is not it there are many other ways to achieve this.
Augmented reality has a wide range of applications in several industries and thanks to the rise of consumer smart devices, it has now lots of potential in the mainstream consumer space as well. The two biggest mainstream video games, the Xbox and PlayStation, have included augmented reality for the last two generations. Augmented reality is also used in marketing and advertising as a means of enhancing certain aspects of a product in order to make it more attractive which will boost sales. Mobile phones also use augmented reality applications which allow viewing computer generated images that have been superimposed over real world images. This happens only with the help of GPS.
Augmented reality is likely to worm its way into our daily lives more and more in the 21st century. Thanks to technologies which are helping it to become more successful. Nothing can stop us from experiencing augmented reality today itself. Just search for “AR” apps and there are many to try , that too for free.
