What one year into a long distance Friendship looks like

Have you ever had that one friend who has been there for you throughout every single important moment in your life? If the answer to that question is yes, then you are both very lucky and also a little unfortunate. You might be thinking what could possibly be wrong with having a best friend that has been there through all the big moments? The answer is when that same best friend moves away.

There is so much that will change in that one year of friendship that you would have never thought would be possible. This is how the story normally goes:

Keeping in contact

You and your best friend will try to keep in constant contact with each other, to the best of your capabilities. Skype will become your saviour so that you see their face as much as you possibly can and you will try to be in constant contact through WhatsApp and Snapchat. It will be like nothing has changed.

New friends

Depending on who makes the new friends before the other one, it's a given that the other person is going to be very jealous of the new friends that you have made. How dare you go ahead and start spending all your new time with someone else? The person who hasn’t made the new friends yet will feel a bit insecure and left out.

The holidays

The time that you have been looking forward too ever since your best friend went away is finally here! They will come back and it will be like nothing has changed at all. The best part will be that you both will have completely new worlds to tell each other about! Everything will be back to normal in this month, despite all the friction you have been feeling.

Less frequent communication

However, it is very likely that within a few months both of you will be completely new people. You will still love talking to each other and will feel very happy when your friend calls you up, but it might not be as frequent as it was before. And after the tough initial months of a long distance friendship, you will be okay with reduced contact.

Summer

Before you know it, one year will be over and the summer will be upon you once again. You and your best friend will meet each other and spend time with each other and it will seem like nothing has changed. You will forget all the insecurities, fears that you had when they were away from you. Your best friend is yours for the summer and that’s all that really matters.
